Food Safety

Inspired by Upton Sinclair's novel, The Jungle, which showed the grime and filth if the meat industry, people became more aware of the need for government regulation in the food industry. The government under TR passed the Meat Inspection Act in 1906 which decreed that the preparation of meat shipped over state lines would be subject to federal inspection at all stages. To go with this Act, the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906 was desgined to prevent the adulteration and mislabeling of foods or drugs.
